TW-35 Power output.

I bought a TW-35 last year to run a 3x4 baler, had issues with the PTO slipping, had a shop work on it. They dyno’d the tractor when they were done and it would only pull 140 PTO HP, as far as I can read they are rated at 170. The baler calls for minimum of 145hp. The PTO wasn’t slipping it was pulling the engine down, it was starting to smoke so I don’t think it’s fuel related but most likely air. I found the exhaust manifold has a small crack, not sure if that’s enough lose 30hp. Is there any turbo upgrades you guys would recommend? Is the aftercooler something that leaks often? Would like to get more air to it first before twisting any fuel to it.

Sounds like a lack of air for sure. As already said, get a boost gauge on the intake manifold. You should have somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 PSI of boost at full load.

A crack in the exhaust manifold can most certainly be a reason for low boost pressure, depending on how bad the crack is obviously. I would not bother changing the turbo, as the factory one is more than adequate if everything is as it should be.

I doubt the aftercooler is leaking, that design does not lend itself to cracks like your typical aluminum aftercooler that you'd find in a truck.

Thank you guys for the help! That was a question I forgot to ask in the initial post, was what normal boost pressure should be. I plan on getting some gauges, ofcourse the instrument cluster doesn’t work, so I was planning on getting a few gauges, pyrometer, boost and coolant temp.

I had the air inlet off the turbo of my 9000 years ago not long after I got it. I poked the turbo wheel just to see it spin. It didn't. The bearing was coked up. I assume it had been shut off without adequate cool down. I cleaned it out by squirting WD-40 in the oil inlet and poking the wheel. I couldn't dyno it because a PTO bearing was bad.
