I have a 178 fergy with a 671 jimmy in her .my question for the group is , has anyone converted both clutch plates to drive ?ie weld the gearbox drive and pto shafts together , loose the pto gear , then sort the pressure plate release to drive ?

So you don't need the pto. If not just get a twin disc clutch from someone like Summit. And make a billet flywheel.

Thinking about it again
You could do like you say. Weld the two shafts together. But you would launch with the pto clutch then the original clutch. But a enterprising young man could figure out how to synchronize them. But also a clutch from a Diesel pickup would more than hold a 6-71 or a 238.hp. 300 is a lot for them.

Looks to me like the pto has a diaphragm type pressure and the gearbox a spring type.I was trying to work out how to disgard the diaphragm .make a sandwich plate , and utilise the one pressure plate.its just all there from factory.just needs fine tuning .and a 9" & 11" friction plates must be good
