Two nut valve cover on a C ?

I've always seen valve covers with 4 mounting holes but this tractor has only two mounting holes. I understand they can easily be transferred from one engine to another but it has me wondering if it's an older style.

This particular engine has 2.250" diameter pistons and I'm wondering if it's just an engine out of an old B that was dolled up?

With out going and looking I cannot be sure but I think all 4 of the Cs I have are the same 2 bolt valve covers. I also have a cast iron one and it is 2 bolt

I have had both two hole covers but most are 4 hole. I have been looking thru my pictures for both covers but have only found the 4 hole covers.
I think the 1938 B only had the two hole cover when I bought it. I would put a head that I had rebuilt on it and it now has the 4 hole. I remember the discussion 25 years back and I would have taken pictures of both at that time. In the hunt I found a picture of what I did to all my B's and C's to keep the water from seeping in around the exhaust.

look at the engine serial number on the flat boss on the bell housing flange... proabably a VERY EARLY year, as you said..
