Tye drill opinions

Tye made a good drill. We bought a wore out 15' on a coulter cart and used it a number of years. If i didn't have to go to agco for parts i would have another one. Our Agco dealer leaves much to be desired.

I am currently rebuilding a pasture pleaser drill, I am replacing every bearing in it. So far I have not gone to agco for anything. Most of it has come from Shoup and the Big Bearing store. I did not give much for this drill so I can afford to fix it, but with that being said, if I had to get everything from agco it would have been a disaster!

Couldnt pay me to own one.... Our soil conservation district has had them for rent over the years. I hated them, and as soon the the Farm Bureau board decided to buy a rental drill and got a Haybuster I rented it, even at double the cost over the Tye. Have to move each coulter to set the depth, hard to clean, way too may wear parts that arent needed and not real accurate.

Hayman, Do you recall if it was a pasture pleaser? Mine has gauge wheels for depth. It is also a three point set up.

It was a pull type 8 foot pasture pleaser, had the gage wheels to set the depth but then the no till coulters on the front that have to be set too. Otherwise the seed slits would be too deep. I had about 10 failures with it before I realized at an extension meeting the coulters had to be set too or there was nothing to stop the seed from dropping to the bottom of the slit. That was a knuckle busting 4 hour job with a hot wrench, pipe wrench, and sledge hammer. The guy who taught the class said there had probably been more alfalfa seeding failures in Kentucky from those coulters being set wrong since most all the conservation districts had them than every other reason combined.
