Tying down a Cub

How & what do you Cub owners attach your straps/chains to on the front half of your tractors when they need to be
trailered?

The front end is pretty light on these tractors and don't want to stress/break anything. Thinking about permanently
mounting a couple hooks to the cultivator mount bolts near the bell housing.

Thanx !

I have that problem with my C. I use it for pulling and it gets trailed a lot. I took some 1/4" plate and some weld on chain hooks and made some tie downs that bolt to some of the cultivator attachment points. It works very well and it is safe and secure when I am trailering it. Make sure you use the weld on hooks not just chain hooks. Also never ever use lifting rings to make a tie down. They are only rated for a vertical load.

Actually, if you get real lifting rings, they are designed for side/angular loads. Go to McMaster-Carr and search for "lifting rings" What you said about only vertical loads is correct for the old lifting eyes

just wrap a chain around the front axle near the center and go. You aren't moving 10000lbs over a washboard road tractor wt less than 2000 other chain around drawbar

I never heard that straps were not legal, in certain states. And have traveled to all except Maine and California. I've used straps in commercial hauling for everything from lumber to equipment. I do prefer to use chain for most things though I have had loads that I ran out of chains and carried 18 chains and binders on the truck along with about that many straps. Show me where they are not able to be used .

I was a truck driver for 30 years, Straps are legal under federal law. I don't think the states can override that. The rules say tie downs, don't say what kind.

Chain or straps from the front bolster axel to a trailer clip towards the back and a chain from the drawbar to a trailer clip towards the front. Hasn't failed me.
