u joint sources

A friend of mine has a New holland FX25 chopper. Some of the U joints are starting to get bad, so he went to price new ones and got a big surprise. $$$! Seeing how its still going he decided to look for some place else to get them through. Anyone know where to look?

I don't know the machine so I don't know what it uses for joints... I spose if it's got some CV joints in there, he's looking at a pile of money.
I do know that in days gone by, NH used a pretty good quality shaft and joints on their gear. I don't know wht they use on that rig today.... but with the old stuff I'm about at the point where I wouldn't mind paying for the OEM parts if I got the original quality.
To answer your question, most dealers along with A&I carry a line of Weasler driveline parts that will no doubt match up to what he has. The thing I find with Weasler though is.... the quality is not really there. I've noticed several weasler shafts fail now where the old Spicer parts held up without a problem... so I ten to think the weasler stuff is poor... so he might be farther ahead to pony up and buy the OEM parts. An FX25 is not something he wants buggering up over a cross kit that can't quite 'cut it'.

A good NAPA store might match them up to Spicer parts. I have had good luck with doing that.

find a shop by you that builds drive shafts they usually have the better line of parts

Besides NAPA, Inland Truck Parts and Baum Hydraulics are good sources of U joints.

New Holland likes to use their own sizes and allow no one else to sell parts for them.

So you may have to go to a New Holland dealer for the parts.

I've never found a U-joint yet - of any make that wasn't available from many generic sources.

Post some specs and I'll give you some part numbers.

You just need a good reference catalog with the specs and cross-reference part numbers. I have them all here at my house.

Most NAPA have the books in paper form stuck behind the counter somewhere. I'm lucky in that a friend of mine owns a NAPA and she gives me all her old books when they get updated.

Besides automotive, some of the catalogs - include the PTO series. I have one here that is marked "PTO98N" which means PTO and farm U-joint for 1998. Title is "power take off driveshaft parts for agricultural and truck mounted assemblies." I suspect it will have any u-joint or driveshaft part you need.

NAPA also has the "heavy equipment off-highway and 4WD tractor" u-joint book - OHE - whatever year - N. This book gives all the u-joint sizes as well as crossreferences for other company's part numbers.

Get the specs. If it is standard, any farm store should have them. If they are metric, your NAPA store might have them if not try a bearing supply store. That's where I get my metric u-joints. Also if they are metric they will be higher than standard.

Soon after we got out of penn state ,my room
mate went to work at NH ,back then NH used all
NEAPCO joints . He worked in design for the
717 and later choppers.

Forgot to mention they are metric! The prices he got form the NH dealer were a bit outragous for a u joint.
