UB live power

Anyone have a way of doing away with the live power on a UB without changing the shaft in the rearend ? My cast housing broke the back half, been brazed once before.

Mine did the same thing.

I removed the inner cast housing and removed all the springs and steel balls from the actuator mechanism.

I took the part that slides on the splines of the large outer shaft, the two brake disks and the piece that goes between the brake disks and bolted them together with 6 5/16 bolts. So far it is working fine.

THE shaft will come out through the outside without any more tear down than removing the brake assymbly. Then you can put the solid bull pinion in from either side of a UB OR a later G GB.

My Ub was slipping ,so took the whole assy. out and removed the springs and steel balls out.Then put the whole carrier assy in my drill press and bloted it all together with hardened 5/16 bolts.Check the forum in the past.Guys have done this often , and it works well.
