UB question

Hi, I just bought a UB gas with a Schawrtz (sp?) wide front and power steering. If I want to put the narrow front back on, will the parts from a regular U work? I found a pair of U's for parts in rough shape but one runs and can be bought for a fair price.

I don't know if U front end parts interchange with UB or not but I am curious which power unit yours has? My UBU-LP has a CharLynn unit on it and I have a parts UB with the Schwartz wide front that has a Behlen unit on it. The two tractors side by side look like the Schwartz is a simple bolt on job. I have been planning to put the wide front on my UBU.

Not sure what I have, will have to get it home and clean the grease off. It mounts on the shaft on the left side and the pump is right under the hood on the top left side of the motor. Pump needs to get the belt lined up better. A hole is hacked in the hood for access to the pump fill cap. A nice compact unit all together. May keep it, PS is good for the lazy, right?

Any ideas what the wide front and PS is worth if I go back to factory stock?

Yes, from what I found in the parts book U front end parts will fit, pedistal, front axle, rims etc.

From what I have seen on ePay the power steering unit is worth somewhat over $100 and probably the same for the Schwartz wide front.
The Behlen unit is probably twice the size of a CharLynn and both mount on the side of the tractor in line in the steering shaft. The Behlen I have uses the main hydraulic system, it is plumbed in between the pump and the reservoir/valve unit. My CharLynn unit uses a separate pump like you mentioned.
It was run with a separate belt that hooked on the back of the fan pulley but wasn't very efficient because it only had one side of a v-groove to work with. I found a pulley in a hardware store the same diameter and got a machinest friend to cut one side off it and turn it down and epoxy it to the back of the fan pulley. Works great. I also replaced the seals in the CharLynn but it still leaks, guess I will have to sleeve the shaft to get it to seal. I just add oil nearly every time I use it. This is more a working tractor than a show one and Power steering is neat.
