UFO stopped working

My UFO control (3 point tilt mechanism) on my Yanmar F20D stopped working in the down position. My hydraulics all work (loader, 3 point lift) and the hydraulic oil looks in the full range on the dipstick. When I move the joystick, the down direction sounds labored (like it would normally when completely down), but the up position does not change pitch at all.

It looks like the joystick control is not actually a valve - is it an electrical control?

Where should I look / how do I troubleshoot this issue?

The joystick is, in fact, just a switch that provides feedback to a computer that controls a valve that attempts to keep a special tiller level automatically.

You can find the valves under the seat. There will be one for up & one for down. you should be able to hear the down one click when you move the joystick. The solenoids will have buttons on the back. You can push the buttons to manually activate the solenoid valve. This will help you troubleshoot. It is possible that the auto leveling circuit board in the control module is bad. You can email me & I can send you instructions for eliminating the sensors & circuit board. This will leave you a simple joystick that directly controls the solenoids instead of being computer controlled (you dont need).

Hope this made sense.

Thanks Aaron,

Looks like getting under the seat is going to take a bit of disassembly. I can see the valves, but cannot see or reach any buttons, so will need to spend some time with it.

Probably be about 10 days before I get the time to dig into it. (Work can sure get in the way of tractor fun!)

I would like the bypass instructions if you could post them here, or I can send you a separate email address.

Was also wondering if the two knobs (one two position switch, one 3 position switch) on the same UFO control do anything at all. Could they be in a wrong configuration? Or are they meaningless in this context?

They are part of the automatic leveling system. They may prevent the joystick from working correctly if they are in the wrong spot. Just try it in different positions. There are only 6 possible combinations.

Hi Aaron,

I was able to confirm that the relays work properly by pressing the manual buttons on the relay, and the hydraulics work.

I would appreciate the instructions for bypassing the computer controls that you previously offered.

Your assistance has been directly on target - it is greatly appreciated!

Bill

The solenoid and valve appear as one rectangular object, with a single button to the rear controlling down, and a single button on the front controlling up. So it doesn't look like two separate switches or valves.

Just in case that has significance in how it is wired.

Thank you Aaron.

The instructions worked fine, and my UFO control is now working. And I now have a simple circuit that I can fully understand, instead of the complex unnecessary system.

As a new Yanmar owner, I was concerned about service and support for a "grey market" tractor. But this is better service than I would have received through any dealer supported tractor.

Thanks again for the help.

I have an FX 235 and it seems to have a similar problem. I purchased a parts manual which shows a rough wiring diagram but would like to get your instructions for bypassing the computer controls for the UFO. The difference between my tractors problem and the discussion thread is when I tried pressing the buttons on the rear of the solenoids nothing happened. The lever for the height adjustment seems to be sending a signal to the selenoid ( checked for continuity) but there is only about 5 volts going to the switch; however there is 12 volts going to the solenoids. Not sure if this is right. I would appreciate any other tips or advice you could give me. My e-mail address is <EMAIL email="[email protected]">[email protected]</EMAIL>.

Thanks - Allen

Unfortunately, the 3 didig F series a much more complicated than the 2 digit. I have never bypassed one of those and dont really have any idea how to troubleshoot one without seeing it. The solenoids are 12v so at worst case you could always just run them with a toggle switch or something.

Thanks anyways. I haven't had a chance to see what all ties into the joystick type switch and what goes elsewhere in the box the switch is mounted to ( lots of wires from various places though). The solenoids for the tilt have a constant 12V going to them and the switch grounds the solenoids to activate them (this function works fine). The up/down joystick doesn't seem to ground either solenoid for these actions but the height adjustment switch will (at both extremes of range, max height/min height) but with no reaction. I know the up/down joystick switch sometimes interfears when lifting or lowering with the height adjustment lever if it has been bumped either for up/down action. Let me know if you have any other thoughts. I wont get a chance to play with it until the weather gets a little better.

Aaron, can you send me a link for the info on eliminating the sensors &amp; circuit board? Also can any of the valves attached to those controls be safely removed?

no problem,
Just click the contact me link below and start a support ticket. I can attack the instructions on my reply.

</s>What are the identifiying differences between the two UFO systems? I know there is one on the tractor my dad and I have.<e>

This is my post, not sure why it didn't register my username.

I'll also add, I have pics of our control box and the cylinder behind the seat (can post if needed) with the buttons on either side. We have verified that the buttons work to raise and lower the left/right of the 3pt, and that the joystick box also has 2 switches, a 2 position and 3 position. Cycling through the 6 possible settings results in the same joystick operation...nothing...

Hello . I have on my Yanmar f22D UFO control...but work only the joystck. And i don't know what mean the 2 switches. Maybe someone know what they do ? They doesn't work...I switch but nothing's change... Maybe someone know how may i check ? Sorry my english.

No, it uses the main transmission/hydraulic reservoir. Be sure the joystick control box is well grounded. Those boxes ground to the fender by the mounting bolts and if you get rust built up there it might not be grounding correctly.
