Yep, same type of deal we had with our New Idea No.4 rake. The carrige piece that adjusts the chain tension broke last year while I was going like a bat outve a barn fire. Also broke the chain too. But she got all welded up and now along with a new chain and a loosened up tensioner she's working great. Things get worn out, it's what happens.
 
Any time the knife drive rips itself to pieces you need to evaluate the conditions of the sickle sections and guards and hold down clips and even check "knife register".

If any of that is less than perfect the knife will be tearing off the crop that's being cut and taking a beating.
