Underrated Case Tractors

Bill,

I would say the DC doesn't get the respect it deserves. A late model DC with live PTO and live hydraulics and 4 inch pistons could hold its own with any competing brand, yet they are talked down upon for the unique steering system that is more comfortably positioned than those straight up over the hood designs. A very good machine that just doesn't get the credit it deserves. IMHO Don
Don, I was on my DC today mowing, it needs a clutch, but that tractor is like a good friend

@brendonh I had to read your post like four times to follow it lol, took it as a bash at first. My 1030 is an absolute beast, I also have a 1370 that is sitting somewhere around 225 hp, if you can keep it on the ground itll pull the nnalert out of the earth! she needs some ballast for sure. we had a 2590 that was right at 350hp for almost 7000 hours, full rack of weights and 20.8x42s dualled full of fluid it seriously would do it, after we got the 9330 we turned her down to about 250hp or so, never did open here up other than to set valves a couple times and do the initial pump, injector, and turbo mods! it left here with 8600-8700 hours and never used more than 1qt of oil in 10 hours pulling the snot out of it or playing with the grain cart.
it was a bit of a dig, I'm a deere guy! All in good fun I hope!
That being said, I've had the pleasure of running both a 2390 and a 2394. Good machines, did what we asked of them, still, I always liked going home to my 4640.
The 930 torture queen, well, I wasn't a fan of that one, did not live up to comfort king as far as I could tell.

Grandpa had a 52 or 53 burnt orange LA. That ole girl will run circles around my R any day of the week as soon as you get the carb set right, which on that one, might take all day. She couldn't keep up with the W9 the neighbor guy had though.

As they also say.....

There's a smile on your face with a Case on the place.......

@brendonh All good man, I have a very strong dislike for green, I am missing part of a finger from one, but even before that didn't care for them even though they paid my way through school, mom worked for financial for 25 years, I've run several and i do like the inline power shift but beyond that a Case would drag any one I've ever been around through the dirt along with the implement, I grew up with Cases and White/Oliver, we can all poke each other and hand fun, end of the day whatever works for you is the best!

I grew up riding my dad’s VA and VAC 14 tractors and those little tractors were tough little rigs, but in direct answer to your question. I think the 930 and 1030 are the most underrated of the J I Case tractors. With a forward seating position and a flat platform, very much like all late model tractors have now. And a 12 gallon hydraulic pump that gives the tractor enough capacity to still be very usable tractor with modern equipment, like a hydraulic push gate manure spreader as example. These tractors have the weight and power to do a lot of work on farms still today and just sip fuel too. Often over looked and underrated

I really like when I get to use my 1030. And...since I modified the steps so it's easy on/off, it's a dream. Those tiny little steps right beside the hot exhaust manifold, who in their right mind thought that was appropriate.

I do have two complaints on the 1030. One is the power steering. It's not horrible, but could be better, it's definitely not a one finger steer machine. Two is the location of the PTO handle. It could have been put in a easier to get to place. Got to be a bit of a contortionist to reach it, and steer, and run any hydraulic controls, or the three point at the same time.

@DRussell I agree on both, my PTO handle is a bit worse than normal as grandpa put the original seat assembly from the 1070 onto the 1030 when they upgraded the 1070 to an air seat, mine has awesome steps, at some point in its life it had a cab plus grandpa added another step below the original ones after his knees got really bad. We modified the the clutch linkage as well to make the pedal much easier to push.
