i have a one row ih corn picker. the elevator goes to the side. the picker and the wagon travel side by side. would like to know the modle no. and the years they where made. looking to restore one have two.thanks chris k

I looked in C.H. Wendell"s book, and it looks to be a No. 3 picker, although couldn"t tell for sure without a picture. Hope you get it in working order, maybe ou could bring it to a picking show. What state do you live in?

Sounds like what my Dad had, model 1 P. Was a 47 year. Same picker with rear elevator was a 1 PR.
Does it have the fold-up hitch that holds the wagon tongue? Also chain that hooks to evener pin to pull wagon, other end hooks to neckyoke peg to hold back on downhill?
Trip rope latch on the chain. Start with the wagon forward, loading the rear first. When that part gets full pull the rope, drive forward a bit, letting the wagon toward the rear & fill the front. Worked great with long wagon tongue when Dad still had horses. After he sold horses he converted it to a rear elevator & shortened wagon tongues.
Brother & I took turns taking a week off from school to help. Dad picked, we hauled, first with horses, then with the 10-20. On a good day we picked 8 flare box loads.

When I was growing up in the 1940's and early 1950's our neighbor had a McCormick-Deering #11 which was a two row side elevator picker from the 1930's.A one row would have been a model#1. The later rear elevator IHC pickers were numbered the #1PR and #2PR. This is all from memory and is as accurate as I can remember.Dads first Oliver picker had a side elevator. I remember him and a hired man opening the corn fields with a wagon pulled by one of the teams of horses he had during the war years. I tagged along and picked up ears of corn they missed and gave them to dad to throw in the wagon as I was not able to do it .I was 4-5 years old in 1942-1943 etc. JH

Heres how to use YT's provided photo upload.First your picture has to be a JPEG and I usually use my Documents to store a picture at,then drop down to Advanced Posting Tools below,click on Upload Photo,put your handle in the box where asked,click on browse and choose your photo at your documents,click on save at the document site,click on upload at the Tools site,when picture comes up to the right of the box click on continue.When you preview your reply, the text of your message if any and the picture will be displayed for verification,if satisfied post it to the forum,thats it.Works good for me.No fooling around with Photobucket or other methods of posting pictures.I posted this picture useing this method.I would suggest you copy this and read along until you get good at it.Jh

One day comeing home, we found a 1 row woods Bros picker in the barnyard. We thought it was wonderful that we wouldnt have to pick the entire field. But, it soon got tiresome picking in front of the wagon and throwing the ears clear over the horses and into the wagon. I know i threw quite a few over horses and wagon both. Dad picked out the ends and I think 2 places in the field quartering it up. It was ok other than he had a time with that shunt elevator that takes the ears from the snapper rollars to the husking unit. He got wood guides to put onm the sides of the elevator to keep the ears from running underneith it. Dont know why he couldnt have just tightened the chain. Shurly that didnt happen to all the Woods Bros pickers sold. Anyway. One day we came home to a #24 IHC 2 row mounted, and that was the end of the Woods Bros, AND picking out the ends and center. BUT, it was a pain to mount, him by himself at first, then with us helping/getting in the way. Finally we were of some help, AND, haveing been out there for several years, we knew the sequence of things to do. Dad kept it down in the lower story of the barn. he would take a barrel. He would take the elevator off and shunt it to the side, then drive in and take off the picker then back out. Then wed spin the elevator around top end in, and with a couple barrels roll and shove the outer end up to the mid snout of the picker as far as possible. Dad ran it with a 48 H Farmall. BUT with it, he had to have another tractor to operate the elevator when my uncle gave him his Kelly Ryan grain elevatore after he bought a LONG JD hay elevator. Dad bought a 38 JD A. Loved that ole tractor. Wish I had it now.

You are starting in the middle or the end with your directions. Don't know what a JPEG is and are you starting with a paper picture or a digital in a camara and supposed that my camara is not compatable with my computor. Where do you start?

Take a picture with your camera,print out a copy of the picture,scan it to the document site on your computor,then use the browse feature of Advanced Posting Tools to bring up the list of saved document pictures.choose your picture from the documents and save it,click upload and then continue and then preview your reply.Simple after a couple times of using this feature YT furnishes.Sorry you don't understand.
