Unstick Sticky brake

Hi there.

One of the brakes in my ih624 is sticky at about the last inch. It is also spongy. I have to poll it back up by hand to free it fully.
What makes brakes sticky and spongy?
Anything I could try spreaying up to there. Rust removal, wd40?

Well if that all you have , go for it, but there are better lubricants than that,sounds like you got a spring missing or unhooked!!

time to pull it apart and clean things up. no oils of any kind to be around brakes. lots of times they get rusted up from water getting in
and rusting linkages up.

So if it is rust why not a rust remover or are they too oily.

nothing not even wd40 . the only thing acceptable is brake clean. or gas. and that is a cleaning agent not a lube. when you take then
apart to clean you will see why it nesessary. i have seen some pretty gummed up dirty brakes and cleaned them up and good. no oil around
brakes or clutches. ever have a leaking rear wheel seal? just a light brake pedal pressure will lock up that brake. do it properly and the
end result will be good.

I have a brake that locks, is absolutely clean, new springs, tried multiple shims, finally dumped diesel fuel on it and now it's doing
it again. very light pressure it grabs and locks, it's reverse time or drag that tire.Maybe different discs?

The brake actuator is extending too far because of the wear on the metal surfaces in the brake system. On a Farmall with disk brakes you needed to mill down the edge of the brake housing to account for the wear. A tractor parts company that is no longer in business used to offer this service. They'd send you a new brake assembly milled to spec, you'd send your old one back as a core.

Unfortunately this model has not been made easy to access the brake discs.
You have to take most of the axle housing off. That is some big and heavy stuff.

For some reason a 624 will not show up on the CNHI
parts site. Does your brake system look anything like
the one show in the diagram for the 674? Only one I
could find that shows inboard brakes on the rear axle.
Do your pedals operate master cylinders as shown? A
pic of what you have would be helpful.
