Unstyled AO

Did the Unstyled AO come with a road gear in 1946? The reason I ask is our AO does , but I have been told by many John Deere collectors that they didn't have a road gear. Our AO will do 10 to 11 mph in high gear.

Don't know about the AO but late styled A's with 38" tires will do 11mph and AN/AW with 42" tires 11-3/4mph. I doubt the AO/AR was any faster.

I don't believe any unstyled JD tractors had a "road gear". There was an after market setup from Behlen available for row crop tractors, but don't know if they would fit a standard AO or AR. I'm assuming that your AO is a 4 speed & therefore wouldn't have a road gear. That being said, my 45 AO "scoots right along" in 4th--maybe 7+ mph.

Yep my '45 BO scoots along at about 7 mph in 4th gear.

This one is faster than that. It will keep up easily with our Farmall Super C and the cousins JD B. When following with a car it says 10 on the speedo.
