Unstyled G Low Radiator

How do you determine the difference between a low radiator and high radiator unstyled G. SN# is in the 2200 range. It has flat bar spoke wheels. Any idea on what it would be worth if it is a low radiator? Could also send a picture if that would help to identify. Thanks.

Well with the advent of repro parts to make low radiator models all have low radiators instead of just the VERY RARE few that escaped change over I heard they all dropped in value somewhat, but are still worth more than any other G except maybe the hi-crops.

G1000 through G4250 left the factory in Low Radiator configuration. A SN in the 2200 range would obviously be in this group of tractors.

While I do not have a picture handy, I believe I can make it easy for you to verify what radiator configuration you have. Look closely at the region where the steering worm shaft passes over the upper radiator tank. If the upper tank has a gentle arching or curved top without a trough to accomodate the steering shaft, you have a low radiator. Beginning with G4251, the tank was larger, higher and had a groove or trough cast into it to give room to the steering shaft.

Deere did offer a retrofit program for owners, and so if you tractor has the larger upper radiator tank, it was one of those so retrofitted. As to value, I leave that one to others. (PatB)

I was at a auction where a G around #2800 sold it was converted to the tall radiator, it was an older restoration but did not look to bad, round spokes on the rear brought $7100, and that did not seem out of line at all if you consider the serial number and the wheels. Post a picture it wont be to hard to tell.

If you do have a low-radiator "G" but has been recalled in the late 30's to have the newer radiator, just keep the newer radiator since it adds character.. and low radiator parts of 21st century vintage are kinda... odd in my opinion.

Well that pic is a little hard to tell but pretty sure it is a tall radiator, still worth grabbing any unstyled G in my opinion.

One other indication which I just read about in Green Magazine I believe it was is the shutter controls were mounted on the outside of the hood on the retrofitted G's. If it is original then I believe the controls are on the inside. Just a thought since it was fresh in my head.
