Unstyled WC carburetor question

I have a 37 unstyled WC. it had a Marvel Schebler carburetor on it. Which works good, but it wasn’t what was originally on there according to the serial numbers. (S/N WC59097).So I have a couple parts, tractors, and one had a good hood I could use. But it had the small gasoline tank for the distillate engine. So I’m gonna go with that hood and the small fuel tank. Because that was a pretty decent hood. So I disassembled the zenith 124 1/2 carburetor hoping to use that. The problem is the throttle shaft is loose in the carburetor body and a idlejet is broken. It doesn’t seem like there are parts readily available for the zenith carburetor. But I don’t know if the Marvel Scheblers where plumbed for the two fuel tanks. I can run the Marvel Scheibler carburetor, and it should work just fine. And just leave the small tank on the hood for looks and not plumb it. But I’d kinda like to keep the original style carburetor on the tractor. I could probably try and find another 1241/2 carburetor, but it might be just as wore out. Does anyone know if there are still parts available for that carburetor? There is a felt throttle packing, but I doubt it will completely seal and prevent air coming by the throttle shaft. Maybe it’s just not worth the effort and just run the TSX-259 Marvel Schebler.

Here’s where I’m at right now. I hope to get the fuel tank and radiator back from the radiator guy next week. I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! But I keep on getting sidetracked.

I have a WF with the dual fuel set up, Marvel Schebler carb. The claim is that there is a small difference in the jetting, not visible to the eye, but mine runs perfectly well on straight gas. If you have such a carb that is good, go ahead and put it on.

We had a 1936 WC purchased new in 1936. It had the Marvel Schebler carburetor that was plumbed for both gas from the little starter tank under the hood and the big tank. It came with a manifold with a big K on it for burning kerosene. We never used it. I still have it with the original orange paint on it.

I have 2 37 WCs, both have Zenith 124 1/2. One has holes for tank, other doesnt. Both run good on gas. Had one in parts row and somebody found it, barrowed Zenith carb and one unstyled fender and some draw bar pieces.

It is good to know that the marvel Schebler’s carburetors were plumbed for both tanks. I think I will go with the Marvel Schebler carburetor for the time being. The tractor was running good. And maybe sometime down the line, find a good zenith. Sounds like the weather is going to warm up later this week. I might go junkyarding and enjoy the fall colors. And see what kind of miscellaneous parts I can find before the snow comes.

The only benefit that I know of with a Zenith over a M.S carb is that when the day was finished and you either let the carb run dry from kerosene or you drained the carb, restarting cold, next time on gas was easy with a Zenith. The Marvel Scheblers not so. When running kerosene you needed to switch over to gasoline and let it run on pure gasoline just for a few moments or you had a more difficult cold restart the next morning. Other than that I'm very pleased with the M.S. carbs.

Nordic, do you have any pictures of how the carburetor was plumbed? Or anyone else for that matter. Especially where the two lines run into the carburetor.

As far as the carburetor itself is concerned there is no difference in plumbing. There is only the one fuel supply line to the carb just like 'gas only' tractors. There is a tee in the fuel line coming from the big tank where the line coming down from the one gallon tank connects. I don't think I have picture to post and the tractor is too far away from me to get one. I will take a look through the manual to see if it's shown there, if so I can post it here.

Thank for the reply. I do have a parts manual, and it kinda shows how it’s set up. I may be able to study the parts book and come up with some thing. I guess maybe I’ll just plummet for the big tank for now. And then sometime later plumb them both.
