Update on compressor motor

From a couple of ealier posts, dealing with a new motor for my air compressor, I took the motor to a Tacoma electric shop, and it was checked out, this morning. The motor was good, but was prewired for 120. The manager switched 2 wires, then showed me where to hook my 3, 240 wires. The service was free, and I brought it home, and it runs great. It turns out, that I haden't mucked up the 240 wiring, after all!

Great, thanks for the feedback, looks like the opinions that it was miswired were indeed correct . Good to go.....

On the other hand, had you posted a snapshot of the nameplate, (as was requested), we could have helped you with the motor lead wiring and saved you the trip!

Come on Bob, give a guy a little slack! A few years ago, I was forced by Boeing , to learn enough about a computer, to order my parts from stores. I couldn't depend on finding a buddy to order for me. By the time I got to where I could use this forum, and order parts for my tractors, I really felt, like I was doing something. I never needed to post pictures, till you asked for one, and then the wife had to show me how to use the Easy Share camera, and after screwing up, and taking video on my first attempt, I had to go back to the shop , repetedly, and take stills, which was not clear enough to read. The wife picked 4 pict's that might have been good enough, and after storing those in a file, she found out that she couldn't post them on YT. WE waited for our son to get home, and asked him to do it. He sit down and when he was done, he said that it was done for me. Later I went on Tool Talk, and couldn't find the pictures, or even the post. Now if you will wait a couple of years, I just might learn to take, and post pictures, if I don't pass away first! Darn it I tried!

Ralph, don't feel bad, you're not alone in that respect.

Back in the mid 70's when I was dating my second wife, because of our work schedules the only time that I could see her was at her place of employment. She was the Data Entry Supervisor for a company that processed all of the Inventory & Payroll data for several large companies such as May Company, Mode 'O Day, and Robinson's Department Stores.

One day when I stopped by, there was an empty terminal so I asked if I could "play around" on it . She said "OK" since I didn't know any of the Alpha-Numeric Access Codes to access the Computer. I knew very little about computers except that whatever you typed on the keyboard came up on the monitor screen. So while "playing around" I typed - "EMERGENCY ENTRY - COMPUTER IS IN ERROR" - and hit the "Enter" button. The Computer came back and said "READY" . - OOPS!, HELP! - . Fiancee came over & cleared the screen and asked me to REPEAT what I had done, as without the Access Codes what I had done was supposedly IMPOSSIBLE. I repeated my actions & the computer again said "READY" . Fiancee checked her 5-ring binder of "Pass Words & Back Doors" and my entry was NOT listed. OOPS!

Since the computer was a HUGE, Inforex Mainframe Computer with dozens of Reel-to-Reel tapes running back & forth, my fiancee called the REGIONAL Inforex Service Technician and had him come over. He checked his MASTER book of "Passwords & Backdoors", which looked like an Unabridged Dictionary, and my entry WASN'T LISTED. - It turned out that the INSTALLER had put in his own "private, unregistered, unlisted password", in PLAIN LANGUAGE ; and I not being a computer GEEK had accidentally hit on it.

Forty years later and I'm STILL LEARNING about these dang-fangled confusers. They keep trying to teach us "Old Goats" new tricks, and it's a long and often frustrating learning curve.
