buddy had a well guy come out. they jetted the lines and got some debris out along with a chunk of sediment screen from the bottoom of the well. had a hard time priming it then, so they put a valve on the discharge side of the pump before the pressure tank. (tank sits away from the pump.) primed the pump and then just barely opened the valve until the pump fully primed and then the pump started working!! well guy said he has started to install the valves on new installs as it makes priming way easier. thanks for all the help!!

Hello glennster,

Glade he got it fixed and quick. Pressure against the pump makes the priming easier as the pump works against pressure, and keeps the intake from cavitating. That is why the suction line is usually bigger then the pressure line, to keep the pump from cavitating. Debris and vent plugging was my guess,

Guido.

Do you have a 2 pipe jet system where the jet is in the well and you have a 1" and 1-1/4" pipes going to the pump? If so it sounds like your water table has dropped. the guy should have changed the jet sizes and put in a valve that's standard and has been for 50 years or more. instead of a restriction valve Goulds makes a back pressure valve that works much better
