Well, I washed it down good with the pressure washer first thing this morning. Brought it back up to the shop and pulled it apart. First thing I noticed was the splines in the hyd pump drive hub on the crank pully were all but gone. Don't know why the pump still turned.
Pulled the head and tore it down. Need intake valves and all the guides. Lots of carbon buildup in the valve domes. Pulled the timing cover and the felt dust seal was in sorry shape and main seal was severly cracked. Pulled the rod caps, and was plesantly suprised. showed little to no wear, and oil pressure was never an issue with this engine. Pulled the pistons and rods out and the rings were totally worn out. Pulled the mains and they showed little ware. Miced the rods and were well within specs. Going to replace all the bearings with std. inserts. the sleeves came out really hard, but finally poped loose. There wasn't a lot of crud in the block and the antifreeze was very clear. Since I have owned it I have added a can of STP when I changed the oil, not all that often, and atribute the great condition of the bearings to doing that.
I don't know how many hrs. are on this original engine as it has an electric hr. meter powered by a pressure switch Teed to the back of the oil pressure gage It is reading 374 hrs, at the moment, but the meter trips over after it records 1000 hrs.
