Update on New Gator Engine

A couple weeks ago I posted a question concerning a new engine I put in my 4X2 JD Gator. It was identical to the one that came with it. After installing the new engine, it cranked and ran perfect until you put the air intake hose to the carb, then it began to smother down just like if you placed your hand over the intake of the carb. I called the dealer where I purchased the engine and they said they would send me a restricter in that some of these engines required it. That was what it needed, when I put the restricter on, which replaces the hose in the side of the frame, it runs great. Harley

The question that I posted was what would cause the engine to smother when I connected the air intake. The answer I got along with all those I talked to was there was some type restriction to the air intake. I was trying to share the fact that in this case it was getting to much air. Sorry I was not specific enough. Harley
