Messed with the tractor tonight and I got it to pop again like it was going to start. And I cleaned all connections and have a better cranking power now. So I put a new tune up kit in last week and I do have power to the points and when you try starting the tractor while looking at the points they only spark here and there not a constant spark. It's adjust to the spec. What could cause this and this could be why it's not starting

Are the new points a good brand or a set form TSC which means there from the land of almost right and good chance there bad from the get go. If a good brand take the flap from the box they came in and run it back and forth a few times between the points some times point have a coating on them to protect them that need to be cleaned off. Are the points set at 0.020 at all four lobes??

They are from tsc and set at 0.20

So then there made in China which means you stand a good chance there junk form the get go

are you sure it is timed right? I into a similar problem the other day, neighbor had someone hired to in frame his 130 and they jumped ship on him.He ask me to finish it and I did but when I started it before installing the radiator I found the governor was worn out,it cranked and ran o.k. before I pulled the governor,but after resetting the distributor to the correct position for #1 and reinstalling the rebuilt governor it started up fine the first time,after assembling the rest of the front end it wouldn't start, checked the timing it was off a little after adjusting it started up and ran 10 minutes then the engine loaded up and stopped as if it had locked up,after doing some checking I found the timing off again,I tore down the distributor and found the gears were worn bad enough to allow it to jump time, it appeared the grease worms had eat them up

make sure your plugs are clean something that dumb will do it

If you have a good condenser matched to the coil, you should have very little sparking at the points.

Well, here's my 2 cents. On my 450 LP, I thought it was high time I took a point file to the points and clean up everything while I was at it. I ended up taking out the points and cleaning and polishing them to a high shine. I was so proud of myself. So I put them back in. I start the motor. It starts harder than before, not easier. Then, over the next few minutes, it runs worse and worse, then dies and would not start. Nothing. Long story short, I found out that the little metal horseshoe connector on the wire coming from the condenser, was the culprit. When I reinstalled the points, the little wire terminal had gotten bent so that it was just BARELY touching the body of the distributor. Once I corrected that problem, the old 450 starts and runs like a new one! Just sayin'. Hugh
