Update on the H Farmall l couldn't get to run.
I almost hate to admit this, but all I did was open the breaker point gap a tad and it started right up. It even tried to start when I wasn't expecting it to, when I was checking for spark. But with those horizontal distributors with the oil filter in the way it's hard to see what you're doing. Plus the way the tractor was sitting it seemed the sun was always against me. So, I'll chalk it up to experience.
This tractor always has started easy. I bought it on a consignment auction about 10 years ago. Horrible day, temp below zero, a few inches of snow on the ground, no protection from the north wind. This tractor was the absolute last thing to sell, They didn't even try to start it, the auctioneer gave his word that it was running when it was brought to the auction. I bought it for $400. Pretty straight old H, actually.
The next day the temperature had moderated a bit and I went to the auction lot with a trailer to get it. I thought I might need help loading it, or maybe even have to do it the hard and crank it onto the trailer with a "come along". But, I tried it, and it started right up and I drove it onto the trailer.
