Upping My HP ?

Looking for some help? I have a 1949 Farmall H C152 motor 95% stock. I have a set of Murphy's roller rockers: a PerTronix electronic ignitions & Flame-Thrower coil. My question is - I looking to up my HP a little without, for now having to do a complete overhauling. I called Steiner about there Farmall H High Performance Manifold & they said it will increase 2 to 3 HP. But was unable to give me more details on the manifold. They could not tell me if a Farmall 350 manifold would work better or not. I was just trying to figure out if it was worth $185.00 to put on the H High Performance Manifold or not. I'm open for ideals and HELP???

Without opening the engine up, you are on the right track. The other thing that I would suggest is get the tractor on the dyno and tune for maximum performance.

While on the dyno, check manifold vacuum when the governor first moves the throttle plate to the "wide open" position while fighting an increasing load. Once the governor moves the throttle plate to WOT, stop increasing the load and take the vacuum reading just above the carburetor if possible. This vacuum reading will be at the highest RPM at which the throttle plate is wide open, AKA the "maximum airflow" point.

If you have more than about 1.5" of Hg than you can gain additional power by reducing restriction through the carb. This test can also tell you if your manifold is too restrictive. Maybe one of the other "gurus" on this board can tell you how you will know...?

If not, please feel free to email me and I will explain...

We talked about this earlier and I told you where to get it done. I think your "Old Age" is starting to show..... :) They say memory is the second thing to go. Can't remember the first.
