US or Japanese model?

Just bought a Yanmar and everything has been painted over with the exception of the hood decal. I cannot find a "stamped" serial number at the location pictured in tech support. I am reasonably sure that this is either a YM135 or a YM1300. How can you tell if it is a "US" or "Japanese" model?

If you push the throttle lever forward and you go faster = US model. Backwards to go faster = gray market.

The repaint suggests it's Japan-market but you need the model to get parts and a manual. Post a photo or tell us the engine from the plaque on it. It will have a "2" (for the number of cylinders).

Found the model number on the side of the transmission it is a YM135-51329. The original color was the lime green. Does this mean it is the US version?

Yes, it is a YM135. Serial number 51329

Yes, it's an export model for North America. Therefore original factory manuals (Operators, Service, Parts) in English were available but don't know if anybody still has them.

The Japanese liked that high-visability Conspicuity Green but not Americans, so around 1980 Yanmar changed to the present red with a hint of orange. From the serial number yours was one of the last green ones.
