How do you get rid of used oil. I have probably15 or so containers sitting around mostly in 5 gal hydraulic oil pails. They make good containers, with a good seal top. Then jeep cans. They Also have a good seal top also. There are several stores that take used oil. I started taking two pails at a time to different stores, so as too not wear out my welcome. It was easier years ago, just toss it on the gravel That ground is like cement now. some years ago I had three 55 gal barrels full of used oil. I found a company that came and emptied them. I can't imagine what regulations I would be breaking having them now. The pails are bad enough, to have sitting around, if the oil police showed up. Stan

Every year I slowly pour a cup of used oil onto every wooden fence-post I have. I have some that have been there for 60 years and are still solid.

With a quantity like you have I'd search for a business that heats with a used oil furnace. There used to be such a business in the city that took all the used oil anyone brought them, but only if it did not contain any gas or solvents.

not sure nowadays. soon as u say " used " oil that pretty much is the deal breaker. used oil has carcinogen's in it.

My Hazardast Waste Co will take it in 2 1/12 gallon containers. Ron MN

Our local auto parts stores have drums you can pour your old oil into.

My local Autozone and O-Reillys both take used oil, just 5 gal at a time though.

Our county has recycle centers. Oil, anti freeze, plastic, electronics etc.

I got lucky, local FS that I work for spring and fall had a free oil pickup day last summer, got rid of 4 55 gal drums full.

One of my local farm equipment dealerships takes used oil for heat. They gave me an empty tote tank. Every couple years I take it to them and trade for another empty.

In St. Cloud, Phillips recycling has a free drop off, it is an open trough in which to pour used oil. used filters go in a rack to drain. bad gasoline is also accepted inside a special building. Used antifreeze is also accepted. No issues, no cost. Jim

Our local town has the county recycle center. Oil-filters- anti-freeze-metal- paper recycling. Really nice to have one close.

There used to be a guy around here that burned waste oil in his shop furnace, but he has now passed on. Now I take it to my mechanic's shop. He has a barrel to pour it into. He also puts in the oil from the oil changes he does in the shop. When the barrel is full, there is a company that comes and empties it.

I use my used oil to start the fire in my wood fired boiler for my shop. Works great for that as it burns long enough to get the wood going. Once the wood is going good and has coals, I have a tube from a tank of used oil with a valve that goes into the fire box that drips oil onto the fire. Helps get the water heated up faster and I turn it off once the water gets up to temperature.

I get rid of all recyclables at the county landfill. It's quick, it's easy, and the county ends up getting a little money for it.

I burn it to heat the shop through a used oil furnace bought years ago.

I agree with the others find a place that has a heating by waste oil. Second find a place that accepts it some auto parts places used to.

I take mine to a local guy that has an oil stove that heats his shop. He takes hydraulic oil also. Tractor supply takes used oil as do many auto parts stores. Last time I knew my local Toyota dealer would take it, he gets paid by the guy that empties his tank. Toyota dealer let my empty my containers into his tank and I still had the jugs for my next batch of used oil. He had no limits as he got paid for it. I brought 20 + gallons one time. Radiator shops and used car dealers take used antifreeze, how scary is that.

My three-county area used to have an annual household hazard waste collection till they built a collection center near me. Limited times when it's open but just drive in and they unload. Took an old refrigerator last year.
