I buy farm and fleet here in Wisconsin and that is about the same price. Also about the same price in Sam's club.
Its average price.

It was universal tractor fluid

TSC sells a number of universal tractor fluids and some of them are not very high quality (e.g. their 303 fluid). $40 for one of the low quality UTF's would not be a good deal. If it is their Traveller Premium UTF or some other quality name brand UTF it is a better than normal price.

I did not know there was different brands of it guess I really didn't pay much attention il check the next time im back there

I believe the premium was 39 then there is the renewal then the 303.
I was by a TSC and stopped in about a month ago.

The 303 seemed quite thin to me, like it was about 20 weight.

The 303 fluid is sold as a generic replacement for the old John Deere JD-303 (and later JDM-20A) fluid. Those are obsolete specifications that even John Deere no longer endorses, licenses, or sells.

The low cost 303 oils currently on the market are very low grade products with weak (under treated) additive packages. They are also made from cheap base oils (some have suggested line wash) and have a viscosity of 7.5 cSt @ 100C and a VI of around 75. That very low viscosity index makes it unsuitable for use at temperatures below freezing. and the package labels typically make that clear. That limitation should be your first warning that what is inside the pail isn't the highest quality oil going. Here is a link to an archived Jobber's World article over on the PQI America website. PQI is an independent industrial lubrication testing organization that is not affiliated with any oil company. The JW article is a bit of a Chicken Little piece and also contains a some JD marketing hype but it gives you the basic idea:

Unfortunately API does not have a UTTF licensing program.....
