having a heck of a time gettin my starter to go back in place goes within a inch and binds up does anyone no what could be my trouble

Did you have the nose cone off of it? How clean is the starter housing and hole in the transmission? Those dudes need to be real clean and a light touch of oil on it doesn't hurt either.

cleaned it up real good and put gel on it i have not had nosecone off thanks for any adivce you have

Sounds like the gear teeth on the starter are not meshing with the teeth on the ring gear. Are the ends of the teeth on the starter straight cut or do they have a slight bevel on them to allow the gear to turn a little when you put the starter up to the ring gear? Did you put on a new starter drive gear? If so might not be the right one. Starter should go back in if it came out.

Teeth are not close to flywheel on instalation of starter. They only engage when the starter is activated and the bendix screws the starter gear out to the end of the cone.

Like Mushey says clean well, rotate back and forth, make sure nose opening is toward the flywheel.
