Depending on your application, a matched pair may not be needed. .....If 2 belts of the same size are slightly different, the shorter belt will rapidly expand to match the size of the other belt while running.

Where do you prefer to buy your kevlar V-belts, I need a matched pair.
you cannot even buy a matched set anymore. remember the old Crysler in the 70's ,engines had 2 belts running the A.C. and when u bought a matched set they were tied together with a string. no such thing anymore. as i just asked about that this winter when replaced the belts on my 89 dodge 1/2 ton that has double belts. had two buy 2 separate belts. and yes there were basically the same length.

I agree, if they come from the same shipment and source they are as close as one can expect. If I thought they were different when in place, I would put them on again in each other's place to check tension differences Jim

You can still buy precision matched belts

Some companies still offer matched belts, but most of the higher-end belt companies (Gates, Continental/Contitech, Jason/Megadyne, SIT Indeva, Goodyear (the Goodyear belt division is now owned by Contitech), etc.) no longer offer matched pairs. And if they do still offer them, the sales rep will tell you they're custom order with a high $$ charge, because no one buys them. I used to know all the stats from Continental, but I've forgot the exact numbers. It was something like this: Back until about 10 years ago you'd have to get matched sets if you needed a guarantee that the chord lengths would match within 1.5 percent. These days even unmatched belts are guaranteed within something like 0.5 percent, which is better accuracy than even matched belts used to be.

At my previous job we stopped buying matched belts for our high HP, precision aligned, constant duty cycle compactor and boring equipment because the sales rep told us we were wasting our money. If that kind of equipment didn't require matched belts, then things like farm equipment and vehicle fan belts certainly don't.

Further to my last post: Check out the Contitech options for Kevlar/aramid chord V-belts. They offer a few kevlar/aramid options. I'm a fan of their 'Torque-Team P' series for some equipment, but they have several types. Some are designed with varying section properties that are intended to handle slip, some are designed to have minimal stretch, etc. Not all kevlar/aramid chord belts are made the same. During the recent supply chain issues we had to keep switching brands. We had major problems with one lesser-brand Kevlar belt that had comparable working & breaking strength to the Gates ones we typically bought, but had significantly more elasticity.

I work on equipment that requires precision matched belts.
Farm equipment still uses banded belts but that is a little different
