VAC Case sparkplug cover

I'm looking for the spark plug shield/cover that came on the VAC Case. It appears most farmers took them off when they changed a pug, and never put it back on. I've been searching parts flea markets for a while, but have not seen any. Anyone know of a source?

Dad's VAC also had a small wooden board under the metal cover with cutouts for the spark plugs. I think I still have it.

Any idea why? I've never heard of such. Seems like it would be counter productive to have something in there which could soak up moisture and short things out.

Separated the plug wires so they wouldn't short to each other.
