vac engine overhaul

I was packing the rope seal in the filler block on the rear main bearing and broke the filler block now need another rear main cap/filler block.was extremely difficult to push the rope all the way down as described in manual. Should I have oiled the rope or wet it first.need help hate to damage New cap when I get it

When I install that type of seal I have always had good luck letting them soak in a small jar of engine oil overnight. Then I just pat them with a rag to get off the excess oil and put it together. BT

If it only was that simple. That cap is bored to fit that block and that block only so if you replace the cap you will have to have is line bored or risk serious damage.
