what would cause the rear differential to act like it has posi? i had to replace the rear and cleanout the trans housing etc then put it back together with no problems, but know when i have it jacked up on both side with both rear wheels off ground and turn them by hand to check both sides turn like it is posi traction. what would cause that?
goes in and out of every gear no problem
drives and turns axle in all gears no problem but when i test drove it , it was push the front end straight and making it hard to turn

Sounds like what it is like doing chores with the DC at -35 degrees. If yours is actually locked solid you must have something seized in your differential.

i took it all apart and nothing was seized. i think it has something to do with the carrier bearing covers where the disc brakes are, there is supposed to be shims but i dont remember which side had them and how many so i think i have it to tight. i backed the nuts off on both side and it was fine but i had oil leaks on both side now

I knew what you did before I read this part,, those shims have to installed correctly on Both sides and the correct amount of them or you create pos-trac, I recommend you getting a Factory Case VA series service manual so you know what you are doing and why
cnt

there on there but i don't know how many there is supposed to be , i'v ordered the dealer service manual to , and just want to have some extra on hand when i do the fix.
