Value of 970

I am interested in the value of a 970 Case tractor. I have not seen it yet. The information I have is clock shows 5600, tin is in good shape, tire are fair with some weather cracks, motor runs (don't know how well), and needs some power shift work (don't know what), and missing one door on cab.

I will be going to see it later this week and would like to know what to look for as trouble spots.

Non-operating with known problems, I would price it as a parts tractor: $1,000 plus the value of the tires.

It was all sounding good until you said 'needs some power-shift work'. Maybe you'll get lucky and it's just sticking spools (see below thread), but it's a gamble. I passed on one several years ago that was in about the same condition you describe and also had unknown powershift issues. Chap was asking $3000 Canadian, which I deemed too much for something having unknown powershift issues. It came with a dandy-looking dual-auger snowblower for that price too.

Hey guys, worked on my Case 970 - early model (yellow). Changed fluids and filters and pump. Starts easily but seems loaded in powershift 1st - 2nd and 3rd runs evenly with smooth powershifts into those two. Trans pressure is in the green. Pushing in clutch stops the tractor like I applied the brakes (after a short trip in first gear) and engine will stall in powershift reverse when clutch is released. The relief valves were missing in the filters and oil a bit milky... noticed trans oil was foamy in the sight glasses. Thoughts? Brian Case farm kid

I will have to wait until I can hear the unit run to determine if motor is good or not. Right now I only know that the motor runs.

It is the power shift that is my concern. I know little about them. Any idea on cost for rebuild on these? I will see if I can get more information on the perceived problem. That is does it move or not shift of what

I make a call to caseih dealer and ask if parts are available, on my 1570 they kind of said some stuff is no longer supported. Might help you know what to expect.

Hi:

More information to add. Have not seen the tractor yet. Seller says tractor runs and drives but the transmission is stuck between 2 gears. Not sure if that means it will only shift between these 2 gears or is stuck in the middle of a shift.
