I actually say a guy adjust the valves on a 216 Chev when it was running- never tried that, myself. I have enough trouble keeping track of two wrenches, a screwdriver and a feeler gauge with two hands, without a moving target.

Mike I have done that it takes a few valves to get the knack of it but it works pretty easy as you can go right down the line from one valve to the next. Just watch your fingers.

Sorry Randy what was your question about adjusting valves. If you can get a manual on it it would help a lot as it will give good directions on the procedure. Its hard to explain here without a manual as there may be several different ways to do it.

Also watch the oil fling all over the engine. I used to do it that way long, long ago and made a real mess every time.

If the rockerarm tips and the valve tips are grooved and rounded. Then using the proper thickness feeler gauge will result in too wide clearances and noise.

Randy, It would probaly involve getting #1 piston up to TDC "top dead center" and then adjusting certain valves using a feeler guage.Then turning the engine one revolution and then adjusting the remaining ones.But i would advise getting a service manual to do the job correctly.That way you will have step by step instructions along with the correct clearance specs.
