Valve keeper angles ?

Are Most Valve keeper angles the same? Meaning the tapered part the goes into the retainer . If your valves have four grooves will any four groove keeper fit or would you possibly get a mismatch at the taper part Just curious as I have eBay valves that need keepers Exhausts have two grooves and intakes have four grooves .

Different engines have different size valve stems, you would need keepers for what ever size valve stem you have.

I googled it and got educated there are three taper 7 degree normal very common then 10 degree High performance called Jumbo then an 8 degree hybrid

How do you decide which taper you need? .....I assume they will have to match the taper in the retainer?

Most likely a 7 degree but yes they must match the retainers angle

7 degree as been the industry standard for years
10 degree keepers helped eliminate keeps pulling thru or splitting retainers on performance engines with high valve spring pressures

What were you originally trying to do? Are you fitting oversize valves in something, or trying to find a non-oem valve that will get something where original parts are obsolete going or what?

My 354 Hemi Industrial engine Slightly oversize intakes Stock exhaust Both intake and exhaust from eBay not bought together and both without keepers

Should have bought the valves and the keepers at the same time.
Not a place to go cheeep...

Quick test-slide the retainer on the valve. Put the locks on the stem and yank the retainer into the locks. The retainer should stay in place.

As long as the keepers match it will work .Already got the intakes covered You have to order with number of grooves the keeper goes into and valve stem diameter

Been there done that in the traps at 8,000 RPM, got lucky. The Manley severe duty one piece valve did not lose it's head. One guide and a new valve and all better, and a set of 10-degree locks.
