Am restoreing dad's 8n block # n349992. 1950 model? Exhaust valve had the 2 piece valve keepers. Intake valve has a one piece keeper about 3/8 inch long. Can not compress the spring enough to remove this keeper. What am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure that is not the other way around? The exhaaust valves could/should have the rotators on them. intake should have the normal two piece keepers.

You can go in thru the exhuast/intake ports with manifold off and using a prybar depress the valve guide so thst the valve guide retainer can be removed. Then you remove the complete assy as a unit and disassemble it on the bench.

If you have not rebuilt one of these old Fords or help someone do it you may be helped by buying the engine rebuild video. This site sells it for $24. It is money well spent. I purchased one many years ago when I rebuilt my second engine. Wish I had seen it before I did it the first time.
