Valve lapping tools

Good catch on that Hobo. I just pulled that head out of the box and took the pictures to show the head is new and bare. It does look like a crack between the seat and spark plug. I will return this head and re order another new one. Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s good. Btw, what tool do you use for lapping? So far haven’t had any recommendations on a quality one. I will check with our Mac and Snap on guys next time they stop at the shop.
No more head work than I do anymore a lisle will do. Those tool cups do harden with age a new one will seal good. I think the last set I brought I got what the parts store had on hand.

geez unbelievable how this question went sideways. i was looking for a good valve lapping tool. i bought one from o reillies and it wont stay on the valve. now its a peeing match on rice burner engines and brake rotors. if you want to check rotor run out use a dial gauge. i dont know of any mower engines domestically produced.

Here is a good lead on a tool. Look up Neway Valve Seat Cutters and Neway Valve Face Grinder. I have them in my shop. great for correcting valve seats and faces. Expensive, yes, but they are heirloom quality.
