Valve Oil Issues

I have an old 85 Massey with a Perkins 4.248 engine. I Rebuilt engine. Fired right up and block shows 70+ oil pressure, but there is no oil getting to the valves. I removed rocker arm assemble and still no oil to the deliver port.

Typically, the the rocker arms are oiled by a hole (or slot) through one of the camshaft bearing journals that lines up with holes in it's cam bearing that match up for only a short part of every camshaft revolution, thereby metering a small amount of oil flow to the rocker arms.

For this to work, the cam bearing (dunno which it would be in your engine) must be installed correctly so the holes in the bearing match up with 2 holes in the cam bearing bore in the engine block.

Ok, I didn't change those bearings. I guess one might have spun, but they all looked good.

How did this nine oiling start ? Right after u did work on this engine ? Those brgs just don’t spin in their bore. They are pressed in.

Yes, I put new rod/main bearings, new liners, pistons, rings. Do you know the oil flow for valves. I did have to remove the oil pump and balancing unit.

may be the head gasket. if the oil port is covered. hope this helps.

I don’t have any experience with that engine, but I do have a good idea of how oil is fed to the rockers on some engines. Did you have a manual to follow when you were doing this work? If not you may get to learn why it is an important asset when doing engine work. I would say if you got the wrong side up on the head gasket the two areas I circled in the photo could cause your problem. You will have to confirm with someone with a manual or has knowledge of these engines to know if this could be your problem.
