valve spring direction

I havn't been following everybodys posts for almost a year.and I miss that. Been busy working and farming and fixing everything around here.I'm finally getting around to putting my 9's engine back together and I've come to the valve springs. The new springs(as well as the old ones) have a variable coil(tighter on one end than the other). I have been looking for over an hour on here, and I know I saw it somewhere, which direction do the tight coils go? The manual doesn't say and I just want to put them in right. Thanks for all your help before and happy new year. Jeff.

IIRC, the general consensus is that the end of the spring with the coils loser together should go "up", next to the valve guide.

In reality, I'll bet you dollars to donuts it doesn't make ANY difference in this low-RPM, low compression, low valve lift, low valve spring load engine.

You need a certain # of coils to make a spring. By spacing them closer and farther apart, you end up with less weight moving on the spaced end. So the closer coils go to the base. It makes a difference the higher the RPM. Not much at tractor speeds.
