vented fuel cap

Has anyone ever seen a vented fuel cap for a 9n/2n, or any other type cap that would fit on one? Just curious, thanks.

I use a NAPA #703-1220 vented cap on an 8N.

I bought one for my 8N with the built in gas gauge in the cap. Not quite as accurate at the paint stick gauge but gives me a good idea at a quick glance.

I 'spect any cap that fits an 8N will fit a 9N or 2N.

8N's do not need a vented cap. The tank is vented in the dome on top of the tank, under the hood, in front of the gas cap area.

The proboem with drilling holes in caps is somethig called mnilkweed seed and other varieties of very small seeds that will be sucked into the vent opening. These seeds are so small as to be invisible to the naked eye, as it were, especially when soaked with gasoline. I have had N's starve for gas and strall out. Nothing is visible in any filter, but these things usually accumulate in the number three filer in the carburetor inlet elbow. Blow that out and you're good to go again.

Any time an N tank is removed for any rewason, it's a good idea to pressurize it momentarily with a blow gun and a rag, and verify that the vent in the dome is open. I just put my face down close to it and feel for the air stream. The opening is so small it is difficult to find, and can very easily be painted shut, especially with high solids primers.

Ford offered a trade-in for your original N gascap for a vented style. The service bulletin is still honored by your CNH dealer. Discussion on this over on the N History board at N T C. Don't let the dealer tell you it is no longer in effect because it is -I got one last summer. The gas tank vent hole beiyng plugged can be a culprit in gas boiling issue too. There are two filters in your sediment bulb that need annual cleaning.

Uhhhh... "pressurizing" a gas tank with a blow gun is dangerous. If you do it, be certain not to apply more than 5 psi.

Drill your fuel cap with a 1/16" drill...right at the center....(at the WORKBENCH...not on the gas tank.) and be done with your problems. Miilkweed or any other item is no more likely to cause a cap problem than it would at the tank vent, but it's a LOT easier to remedy.

Reviving an old thread here, found it through a search.

Today I purchased 703-1220 at NAPA today based off of DMP62's advice, and it's a great snug fit. (I put a little WD-40 on the gasket the first time to get it to slide all the way).

Had previously purchased a vented cap for the 8N somewhere online (not this site) and it was junk, way too loose.

Thank you for the advice DMP62, still helping someone out in 2023.

I had mine replaced by a dealer under the service bulletin deal years ago. It would be interesting if someone checked with a CNH Dealer and see if it's still possible.
