Bought me a round baler yesterday. It's vermeer 504 super i. Seems to be a nice baler. We've only done square bales so anybody got any tips on round baling? Any tips about this particular baler? Thanks in advance.

Make sure everything is greased up and the chains are oiled up... when you go to start a bale ease into the windrow and pick up a little at a time, when you see the bale turning your good to go. Its best to find a light area to start your bale with so you don't plug it up. After you tie turn off the baler and then drop the bale, turn on the PTO with the door up and then close the door and get going again. The hay will need to be good and dry too, it will help. There is a sheer bolt inside the door where the chains area. Also be sure to check all your bearings when your done... its a real drag when they catch on fire.....

The pickup tines play a important part as far as starting a bale, cause they have to push the hay back into the baler far enough. I like a good size windrow when starting, with hay clean across the pickup, so them belts don"t get any ideas. Mine is a silage I, so green hay just makes the tractor bark a little more. A good baler.
