Vermeer 504F HeLp!

Just bought a nice 504F from a old retired school teacher. It has been maintained extremely well. Everything is greased and oiled and in good order. Its only baled 4x4 bales because theirs only 4ft of paint wore on the inside so its not been worked to awful hard. Anyways, I notice all the belts a tracking to one side and have cut into the guides. Ive looked it all over and cannot find any bad bearings. What would cause this? Also any operating tips (504F specific) would be great.

Belts tracking to on side when running empty? Our Massey 1560 (Vermeer 605f) does this but belts start tracking better after starting a bale. The big rods with the turnbuckles at the top of your baler frame can help with belt tracking also. A cheap alternative to worn belt guides is 3/4" black pipe cut to the same length as the square tubing guides. You may still get grooves in them from your belts but if you rotate the pipes now and then they last a long time. Have a good one

Either the belts are long on the side the track too... or someone made a lot of egg shaped, lop sided bales. Put more hay in the side the belts run too and they'll run back the other way...

I can't remember if the F series has it, but on the XL I run the roller in the rear of the baler about half way up the tail gate is adjustable to help belt tracking (loosen the bolt and move roller up or down on either side of the baler). I will try to look at the 504 in the daylight to see if it is the same.

Several things can causes belts to track to one side.
1. Belts always track to the low side of the bale. Make full 4 foot windrows to help with this.
2. As said earlier the belts laces could not be square. Check with a good square. Probably not the issue.
3. The tailgate is twisted. This can happen by lowering gate on a bale. Open gate part way. Measure from point on gate to point on frame. Do this on booth sides.
4. The frame is not square. If you have turnbuckles on top of the baler they can be used to shift the frame. Read the manual for how to twist.
