VERMEER BALER

How much are you feeding it? I've read a variety of different ways people get rolls started. A lot of folks start with low RPMs, then stuff the hay in. I tried it and it just jams up my baler. I use high RPMs, then try to feed hay in across the entire width of the baler. Keep feeding until the belts start going. It took longer to get them going than I was expecting when I first started, so it may just be that you need to keep going.

aT THIS POINT NOT SURE THE SPEED OF THE FEED IS THE ANSWER. hAY IS ENTERING THE CHAMBER BUT THE BELTS NOT MOVING IS NOT DRAWING MORE IN. HAY IS LAYING ON THE GATHERING TEETH PLATFORM AND NOT BEING DRAWN INTO THE CHAMBER. a BALL IS DEVELPING BUT ISN"T CAUSING THE BELTS TO MOVE. nOTE THE PHOTOS OF THE THE CHAMBER , THE FEED PLATFORM AND HOW IT IS HANGING UP JUST OUTSIDE THE CHAMBER.

(quoted from post at 04:09:07 07/17/19) I'm no Vermeer guy,but are the belts turning if you open the endgate?

Nope the belts aren't moving. Have tried opening and closeing the rolls when its running at various speeds and can't get them to move.

Like I said, not a Vermeer guy, been running Gehl for 40 years, but if they won't move at all, even with the gate open, there must be a roller set up I'd think.

Thanks for your imput. Replaced the bearing on the feed roll before season. The drive rolls are turning. I checked the idler rolls and rear gate rolls and all but one turned by hand. The one that didn't I put a pipe wrench on and freed it up. I've run closed throat Vermeer in the past, but this an open throat.

I may have misunderstood the problem. So the belts aren't moving at all, whether you're trying to start a bale or not?

Sorry, hit "reply" too soon.
On my old Vermeer, the gear driving the belts is keyed. If that key breaks, the belts no longer turn. I don't have a picture, I'll look if I can find one online.

Just to give an update on this. Still haven't solved this at this point. Found that I had an idler roll that was froze up and the belts were cut 6" short. Had to cut the bearings and collars out with a torch in order to get them out. Had to freeze the new bearings in order to fit them into the roller. Got them seated and put it back on. All rolls are free and the powered rolls turn but still no belt movement. Am now adding to the 3 belts and we'll try again. Didn't think that 6" on a 30' belt would be enough, but now I'm hopeing I was wrong. The rollers and belts were the causes that most people mentioned. If anyone has any other ideas, toss them out.

Added splices to all 3 belts to extend it out to the specified lengths, but still no success with the belts. No movement.

UPDATE ON THIS POST: AFTER TALKING TO THE GUYS AT HAY DR. REMOVED THE SPLICES TO RETURN THEM TO THEIR SHORTEN LENGTHS AND ADDED ANTI SLIP TRACTION TAPE TO THE ROLLS. WHILE DOING SO I DISCOVERIED THAT I HAD MISSED A SECOND FROZEN ROLL WHICH WAS AT THE TOP WITH THE POWERED ROLLS. CHANGED THESE BEARINGS AND NOW THE BELTS TURN. nOT SURE WHICH SOLUTION OR A COMBINATION OF SOLUTIONS SOLVED THE PROBLEM, BUT IT WORKS,
THANKS TO THOSE WHO COMMENTED ON THIS ISSUE AND THE HAY DR. GUYS FOR YOUR HELP.
