VFD for phase conversion?

I have been reading some posts about VFD's for 3 ph to single conversion.Could someone please tell me what and where to look for? I have 3 phase Rockwell mill with a 3/4 hp motor

You want a 3 phase variable frequency drive (VFD), with 240 VAC input and the output voltage should be the same as your motor. The VFD is designed for 3 phase input, but will work fine with single phase as long as you get the next size bigger.

I don't claim to know much about this subject, but I have posted MANY times a link to a site where you can do a search or ask GURUS who DO have the needed info. Around here, though, most of the time posting something useful is ignored, but here goes...
Lets get PRACTICAL

Common way of getting three phase, and most economical IF you only have ONE three phase motor to run. If you have multiple three phase motors to run.....I would look at a rotary phase convertor. Where are you located?

We have tons of VFD's in our plant and I was told by our supplier that most of them usually generate their own 3rd phase anyway and single to 3 phase is done all the time. If your not planning on doing a lot of exotic things with yours then I would just get the basic one we do a lot of different things with ours so we use mostly Allen-Bradley or Baldor. Make sure what ever one you choose has plenty of air flow around it with a pretty decent heat sink because it will get as hot as the motor it drives. If you have an inverter rated motor with an SF of 1.5 you can play with the speeds. I would stay away from ACTech we have not had any luck with them their cooling is insufficient and their input voltage range is too tight.
