Vin identification

Was wondering if anyone has the serial number key for the
X600 series tractors? I can find them for the 1000 series but
nothing for anything newer (1975 and up). Trying to find out
what year my 5600 is. Thanks

Can you find the unit number, either on the foil tag under the hood, or stamped on the bellhousing? That will give the year, month, day and even shift when it was built.

Got ya. it's the same coding for the 1000 series, don't know how I didn't see that. Only difference is the year range is higher. Thanks

Yup, most models were never made for more than a decade, so the first digit in the Unit Number is the year within the production date range for the model. In some cases they same model was made for more than 10 years, so you would need to check the serial number. The 1220 is an example, made from 1987-1998, so a Unit Number starting with a 7 could be 1987 or 1997, and an 8 could be 1988 or 1998.

As has been said, tractordata.com has serial number ranges by year for most Ford models, but not all.
