Yes. The vice is designed to allow 2 axis movement (X left and right and Y away and toward) The vice is not very strong, and would work for grilling well, but not side force, or irregular work. The strength is best in the center of the jaws. The 2 axis vice I have in my SCSU lab is far more structurally sound, and far more costly. Jim

(quoted from post at 13:55:48 11/08/22) Is there a reason on the harbor freight cross slide vice that the jaws dont go to the bottom ?

What do you mean by "don't go to the bottom?" Bottom of what?

From what I can see they go to the bottom of the jaw opening. That's pretty typical of a drill press vise, which this is just a glorified version of.

Only missed it by two fingers......................................................................lol

Buddy of mine bought one of those thinking he. he could use it for light milling and it failed miserably in that role. After that he just used it to position parts under the spindle. First time he used a large bit, the bit caught as it was breaking through and broke the vise casting. He threw it in the trash which is where I told him to toss it when he brought it home.

(quoted from post at 11:47:45 11/10/22) Sometimes corrective spelling is my worst enema.

Fair warning Greenfrog , I'm stealing that line and using it as my own :D
