Voltage Guage

I have replaced all the gauges in my 1963 MF 35. All the wiring had burnt off the tractor before I bought it. I am wondering how to wire the volt guage. It is a 12 positive ground with a generator. Where do I connect the two wires from the guage?

Are you sure you have a volt gauge or is it the original ammeter?

For a volt gauge, with positive ground, the positive post on gauge to tractor frame, negative post to switched side of ignition switch (wire going to ignition coil). Be sure it is on the switched side and not the always hot side of the switch.

For an ammeter, BAT or charge wire from regulator to one side of ammeter, other side of ammeter to starter switch with hot battery cable. Ignition and light switch inputs to generator side of ammeter. If you have an L terminal on regulator the switches connect to it.
With lights/ignition switch on, engine not running, the ammeter should show negative. If it shows positive reverse the ammeter wires.
