Voltage Regulator for VAC Case

Bought one from Stiener. Got her and I couldn't figure how to wire it up. Called them. When I told them that my generator had a threaded end and a wire coming out from the Regulator, they said that was an old style generator and they NOR no one else had a Regulator that would work on it.

IS THAT TRUE??

Huh? Is it the original generator? If it is, then you should be able to get a replacement regulator or cutout. I suspect that there is some sort of misunderstanding.

Its a 48 VAC Case. I have NO WAY of knowing if its the original generator or not.

My VAC has a 6 volt regulator from John Saeli. I had to drill the mounting bracket a bit.

I don"t know the make of the generator. All I know is that it has a threaded bolt coming out of it, and a wire.

It sounds like the generator from an early Massey Harris Pony. They use a cutout, not a regulator. I understand that they have a crude internal regulating element, and cannot use a normal regulator. My advice would be to get a generator that actually came from a VAC, and then try to work with that.

You probably have a GBM-4823A generator. They had one stud and one wire coming out of the case and used a cut out instead of a regulator. The wire would go to the cutout, and the stud would be wired to the light switch which controlled the charge rate. Also a lot of them actually had the serial tag on the band that covers the brushes so once the band is lost there is no visible identification. Lee

I also have a 48 VAC with the original generator and a cutout. I believe mine also has what you call a thread bolt. But I think the wire on the threaded bolt is the "field" which goes to the resistor on the light switch to lower the charging voltage. I believe the armature lead is a wire coming out of the generator and it goes to the cutout. If you post a picture of your generator, maybe some one can tell you how to wire up the voltage regulator. I have an SC that had the same 6-volt generator with a voltage regulator wired as follow: The "F" terminal went to the treaded bolt, the wire off the generator went to "A" terminal, and the "B" terminal on the regulator went to battery. I converted my SC to 12-volt as the generator didn't work. Al

Yes they are still available. You will need to have a functional light switch to make it work properly. It has 2 charge rates that are controlled by the 3 position switch. Shoot me an email sometime tomorrow if you need more info. Lee
