voting out the light classes

I have heard about maybe the Brush Pullers of Missouri going to eliminate the light classes. Wondering how many that pull in these events or that are spectators, what their feelings or ideas are on it. They're have a meeting on it coming up in january.

im in upstate ny out here theres more pullers in the 3500-5000 then the 6500 and up , some of the pulls i go to start at 2800 and theres usualy 15 or more pullers in that class, and usualy most young ones are brought up on a allis c/b or farmall a b or c , oliver 66... i started on an allis b around 10 yrs old if it werent for that i prolly would not be involved in our clubs and be supporting all the other ones we pull at

If we voted out the light classes in our local pulls we would lose at least half of our pull participants. Hauling around lighter tractors and fueling them is about all a lot of guys can afford. Now this is antique "out of the field tractors", none of the souped to the gills stuff that the big time pullers have. Our little 65 member tractor club isn't affiliated with any of the more organized pulling clubs here in Michigan. I kinda wish we were but I can't get much interest in it, most of the members can't afford it I guess. We actually have our own little weight transfer sled and we are anticipating grading a pull track on our club property.....eventually, but it takes "Acts of God" to get much participation in "work days" we have even though we get about 50% attendance to most of our meetings and show activities. I don't know, it's the economy I s'pose.

Here in Ohio the club that I belong to has no weight classes, just plow size classes. The Farmal C and John Deere B prior to 1947 are 1 plow size, the Farmall H and late gas Deere B are 2 plow size and the Farmall M and Deere A gas are 3 plow size and larger are 4 plow size with a cutoff at 1955, 1956 would have to pull exibition. Now they are strictly factory stock. The Biggest class is the 3 plow at usually about mid 30's in number followed by the 2 plow at around 30, then the 1 plow and at times we do not have enough in the 4 plow to give 3 trophys. I have been on the lineup crew for the last around 10 years. Was strictly out of field supposedly when I got started, just kept getting more modifieds slipping in till I told them either it gets back like it was supposed to be or I am out of here. Well they decided they wanted me acordingly so the club rewrote the rules and they are now more orignall factory than when I got in. We dropped a few tractors but they were all the ones that was trying to slip modifieds in so no big loss. Got rid of the chicken scratch welded hitches. Always a croud watching the pull.

Our highest participation class is 3,000 pounds.If we eliminated classes lighter than 4,000 pounds we could probably run a club pull start to finish in about an hour!! Kip

As president of Brush Pullers Of Mo. I urge the pullers come voice there opinion on any changes. You will need to be a paid member for 2013 to vote on any changes. The more members we have will be more I can ask help at midnight when we are pulling the 13500 farm class so the same 10 or 12 are not doing all the work. When we pull in Fl. We had the same problem . The light classes would pull and the heavy class pullers did the work. What we do is pull light to heavy one pull then next time we pull heavy to light.

Brad, if that's your concern, here's what we do down here. It's a little weird and doesn't make any sense the first couple times. Put the weights on, take them off, but after you do it a few times the break between classes and the way it is, everyone is there for most of the pull.

Even the mixed up order gets mixed up every pull, with 4 different sequences.

If possible try working with another club and use two sleds. We did this three years ago and it works out great. It was 7 hours to pull with one sled, when we use to sleds we cut the time in half.One sled dose certain classes the other dose certain classes. It took a couple times to get it lined out but it workes great. All pullers fill we made a great move when the two clubs worked this out. At first there were those that did not fell this would work, but now they would not have it any other way.

Most pulls around here have odd classes 2600, 3500, 4500 up through, then evens up through. Everyone gets time to change weights, and everyone is around for the better part of the day to help.

I said that the first couple times too. But makes for a nice break between hooks so you aren't scrambling to get weighted up.

Wow there are some small classes out there. What do you pull in a 2700 class? Allis CA, Farmall B? We do not have many clubs around here anymore but the smallest class I can think of is the 4000 at Millersburg (Holmes County fair), although there may be a 3000 or 3500 at Marshallville. Most of our fairs have 5500, 6000, or 6500 for smallest class. To me anything over 9000 pounds is a big tractor but then there are some large 13000 and 16000 classes anymore.

I did not mention a year for the Farmall C and only said it compaired in size to the John Deere B that was built before early 47 and not the B that was built in late 47 up and they are both in the same 1939 to 1955 year period for that class.
