W30 magneto

I am working on a w30 with a F4 mag and getting it running after sitting for a long time in a barn. The previous owners son got the mag rebuild a few years ago and was going to try and get it running himself, but lost interest. My father purchased this tractor this year and we now have it running well, but as it is running the mag snaps once in a while like it does when you crank it by hand, but not constant just random. It does it at idle and at higher engine speeds as well, doesnt seem to have any consitency, it will just make the snap and then run quietly again and has no noticeable affect on the motor. This is the first mag I have worked with, and not really sure of how all the internals work and what could be happening to cause this?? or if it is doing damage?? Any advice or opinions would be very appreciated!!
Thank you

you have a problem with the impulse coupling. it maybe sticky from sitting , weak spring or worn out. need to pull mag and inspect. the centrifugal force from turning keeps the thing from tripping.

I would say that maybe the impulse pauls are magnatized a little and need to be discharged. This sounds like a bad thing that is going to happen if hand cranking it much at all....
