Where can I find a list of distributor codes? Specifically looking for a distributor for a gas w9. best I can tell it has to be a B or W. bought one that doesn’t work and think it’s for a gas start diesel has A code stamp. Thanks in advance
Joel

That’s why I’m trying to figure out the letter codes. I was reading previous posts on the clockwise counter clockwise rotation and only got more confused. But they are stamped. So far seems B or W will work.

I had a list in RPM years ago. According to my notes, code B is correct for a 9-Series with a C-335 engine, W for a C-350 engine. The code A was for the early letter series models (smaller than 9-Series). Code B has a 40 degree advance, W has 32.

Jim thank you for the info. Do you remember the code for gas start diesel distributor? What month year in RPM I will pull it out and keep in my files?
Thank you joel

A would be turning the wrong direction. B like Jim Becker said was used on W-9 and WR-9S with 335 gas engine. If 9 was rebuilt with pistons and sleeves to make it a 350 cubic inch the 600 or 650 gas would work. Probably work anyway. If not the best you could play around with making the advance limit hole in distributor hole longer. Or could probably just advance timing more if it doesn't affect idle or low speed. Gas start diesel distributors with advance could work in a pinch. Make the advance limit hole longer and install spring set 353106R91 Think memory correct on number because it was used on letter series gas engines. Gas starts have real low advance and some no advance with no advance parts; you don't want those. Hole in picture is what can be adjusted to size if needed. Small hole is a gas start diesel. Other hole I drilled to use in regular gasoline turning different direction when testing different advance settings.

Should have known better than trusting memory anymore. Spring number 358106R91 instead of above. Also from what I see it's not clear when change to W happened. Looks like B went into 600 and maybe some 650. Or W was in some 600 and all 650 gas tractors.

I have codes C and H for the gas start Diesels. H seems to be the most common one as far as number of tractor models covered. The RPM article was July-August 2007.

Pretty sure C code gas start was without advance parts. Used as a replacement part for some tractors that originally had advance. IH decided advance wasn't necessary. Could be earlier but noticed them used on 1958 tractors. Also listed to work for H Symbol distributor's.
